โฆ Synopsis
A correlation involving solubility parameters to predict the selectivity of a solvent for extractive crystallisation has been developed. It has been found that predicted and observed values of selectivity agree well for extractive crystallisation processes. However, in case of adductive crystallisation processes, it is necessary to use enthalpy changes on mixing as a qualitative criterion, since the correlation does not take into account chemical interactions between solute and the solvent.
