✦ Synopsis
These molecules are also very hydrophobic. As a consequence of these features no sensitive and selective known methods of quantitation exist for these molecules in aqueous media. One of the foremost properties of CDs is that they allow observation of room temperature luminescence (RTP) for various guest molecules (Scypinski and Cline Love, 1984;Richmond and Hurtubise, 1989;De Luccia and Cline Love, 1985). This feature has been used to increase the sensitivity and the selectivity in both luminescence and chromatographic techniques (Politzer et al., 1989;Baeyens et al., 1990) and it appears to us that complexation with CDs could lead to interesting developments.
In the present work we describe some luminescence and absorption properties of a variety of retinoid/CD inclusion complexes in aqueous solutions and we evaluate their potential for detection from an analytical point of view. We studied complexes between all trans-retinal and its geometric isomers, 9-cis and 13-cis-retinal, retinoic acid, retinol
