✦ Synopsis

Selection in asexual populations is studied. The fundamental theorem of natural selection is extended to a statement on the evolution of all the moments and cumulants of the fitness distribution. It is shown that a normal distribution of fitness is invariant under selection, while an exponential distribution is invariant if there is a finite maximum fitness. In the latter case it is shown that all fitness distributions will converge to the exponential.
