โฆ Synopsis
The possibility of the application of the liquid column damper (LCD) for the seismic vibration control of short period structures has been explored. A viable model of the damper system, in which the LCD is connected by a spring to the structure, has been examined. The structure has been modeled as a linear, viscously damped single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) system. A stochastic equivalent linearization technique has been used to linearize the nonlinear orifice damping in the LCD. A transfer function formulation for the proposed structure-LCD system has been presented. Details concerning the selection of design parameters of the damper have been supplied. Numerical studies have been carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system Further, the additional damping in terms of equivalent viscous damping introduced by this damper into the primary structure has been studied.

In this paper, two issues in structural control are discussed. First, the prediction-type Kalman ยฎlter approach is used to estimate the full-state variables of a building's seismic response from a limited number of measurements and the full-state feedback control strategy can be applied. The result
