✦ Synopsis

Abstract

As a result of experimental and analytical research in seismic behaviour of masonry structures in the last few decades, new methods for seismic resistance analysis and design, as well as new, seismic resistant technologies and construction systems have been developed. After many centuries of traditional use, and decades of allowable stresses verification, clear concepts for limit states verification of seismic resistance of masonry structures have been introduced in the seismic codes. In this review, some basic aspects of seismic resistance verification of masonry walls and buildings are discussed, and some suggestions for future research are given.

The bidirectional response of a two-storey RC frame structure with two adjacent sides infilled is studied through shaking table tests and non-linear dynamic analyses. The pre-cracking stiffness of the infills is large enough to impose twisting of the infilled structure about the common corner of the

The paper is devoted to the investigation of seismic response of the masonry structure and describes experiences with modelling of boundary conditions during the test of large heavy model on 6DOF shaking table. The main aim of the research was how to increase dynamic resistance capacity of old mason

## Abstract Modern structural design requires consideration of both strength and serviceability. With advances in technology, reasonable estimates of strength can be obtained. However, for masonry structures which are brittle and lack tensile strength, the serviceability performance is more difficu

The results of tests of plain and confined masonry walls with h/l ratio equal to 1•5, made at 1 : 5 scale, have been used to develop a rational method for modelling the seismic behaviour of confined masonry walls. A trilinear model of lateral resistance-displacement envelope curve has been proposed,
