If sedimentation occurs in cement pastes during viscometric experiments, large errors in the results are possible.
The sedimentation behaviour in rotating viscometers has been studied and the experimental conditions needed to minlmise the errors are defined.
In coaxial cylinders the water/cement ratio should not exceed 0.35, but if an interrupted helical impeller with angled blades is used sedimentation errors are negligible up to w/c = 1.0.
The implications for viscometry are discussed.
