โฆ Synopsis
surgical oncology. What, if anything, does it have to offer that the others do not, and is it worth purchasing?
Clearly this text is unlike any other. It is coauthored, rather than edited, by three recognized experts in the field: Jack Gluckman, Pat Gullane, and Jonas Johnson. Each chapter is primarily written by one of the three authors, while the other two offer a m i n g commentary in separate text which is set off in gray boxes. This commentary is used to back up, modify, expand upon, or disagree with the opinions expounded by the primary author and is written in the first person. In this regard, the text is unlike any other, and the format is easily understood and very readable. The chapters are basically organized by site and are adequately inclusive. There is an interesting chapter on incurable cancer.
The book is somewhat difficult to categorize. It is not a reference source. It is not an atlas or ('how to" book. Indeed, technique is mentioned only in passing. In essence, the book is a compendium of these authors' "approach" to the patient with head and neck cancer.
