✦ Synopsis

Current research and development activities in applied engineering science have been strongly influenced by recent developments in numerical analysis. Much of this current work is the result of technology transfer, such as modeling air pollution problems with finite element-based tools, numerical application of classical analysis methods, such as boundary-integral equation analysis, and combined-method analysis where different tools are merged to solve problems intractable to analysis by the separate tools. In addition, greater emphasis is being placed on the interaction between analysis and design-application of these advanced numerical methods.
