we should know the exact heat transfer function ^(T), and the temperature dependence of the critical current /C(T). More detailed information on the flux-flow performance is also desirable. Finally, several side effects must be eliminated. For instance, our experiments with highly stabilized compound conductors showed well reproducible small loops in the current-voltage characteristic which cannot be explained by our theoretical approach. Eff"orts to meet all the requirements for fully reconciling theory and experiment are continuing.

Recent experiments' have shown that for small ratios of stabilizer to superconductor areas (as indicated in Figure 8(a)-in contrast to the case shown in Figure 8(b)) the simple stability criterion used here is not valid.

The International Cryogenic Engineering Committee brings together those interested in cryogenic engineering to promote a mutual exchange of information. This is achieved by organizing a conference every second year. This time the Eindhoven University of Technology will be host of the conference. The
