✦ Synopsis
College of Charleston, and a member of the SEC Regulations Committee of the AICPA. SEC Debates the "Road Less Traveled," Moves on Auditor Independence Case SEC 165
T he highlight of the past quarter was the annual Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Developments Conference in Washington. The conference, which is sponsored by the SEC Regulations Committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), was presented to an overflow audience that exceeded 1200 participants. Although the issue of "Earnings Management" reigned as the topic of the conference, accounting for "In-Process Research and Development Cost" was also a favorite subject. An article elsewhere in this journal gives a full report on the conference.
The revolutionary "Aircraft Carrier" proposal for the registration of securities remains a pressing issue, and the extended comment period of 120 days reflects the Commission's sincere effort to solicit as much input as possible. Another article in this journal highlights the specifics of this radical proposal.
