โฆ Synopsis
Evidence for seasonal changes in the metabolic activity and general hehavior of the frog's heart (excised) is found, in part, in the following reports: Hill ( '11) on heat production; Wertheimer ( '33) and Clark, Gaddie and Stewart ( '32) on carbohydrate content; Barcroft and Izcpierdo ( '31) and Carter ( '33) 011 the relation of heart beat frequency to temperature. The seasonal variation which we are reporting concerns the behavior of the intact heart of Rana pipiens at temperatures above the 'normal' temperature range (above about 25.C.) where a partial or complete block of the beat is produced. Our experiments show that the difference in behavior between fall (or spring) and winter frog hearts has an endocrine origin.
