Abstract

75% of the isolated strains were Gram negative, asporogenous bacteria. Almost a half of them fermented glucose, which was probably caused by a selectivity of the agar medium for the particular types. The groups tentatively classified as Enterobacteriaceae and Aeromonas, prevailed during summer, whereas pseudomonads and Acinetobacter were more common in winter.

We documented permanent presence of heterotrophic filaments in three acidified lakes (pH<5) in the Bohemian Forest. Due to acidification, crustacean zooplankton were absent in all but one lake. In terms of carbon flow, microorganisms were thus almost exclusive players in the pelagic food webs. Varie

## Abstract Population densities and generation time of heterotrophic bacteria were estimated in water and sediments of fish ponds used for polyculture, monoculture and traditional systems of fish farming over a period of two and a half years. Spatial differences in microbial densities in the ponds
