A population of Ghironomuspllcmosus (L.) from it fish pond hits bcen invcstigated for two yctm. Quantitative benthic samples and emergence traps wcrc i i s e d to study the seasonal dynamics. Effect of some factors on the duration of drvelopmerit was st,ridied in laboratory experiments. Data on larval abnndttnce, length frequency analysis and emergence of adults suggest it bivoltinc life cycle. The populat,ion of C. plurnosus invcsbigtted showed a pronounced tendency to dormancy, even under long-day conditions. Fectors regulating the bivoltine life cycle arc discussed.
