We examined whether impulse activity influences the density of mitochondria in the motor axons innervating the crayfish claw closer muscle. Mitochondria were compared in the phasic, tonic, and chronically stimulated phasic motor axons. Tonic axons had twice the mitochondria density (total mitochondr
