โฆ Synopsis
The carbon (1s) and osygen (Is) photoelectron spectra of carbon monoxide in the gas phas .CWC been measured in a search for strong satellite peaks. Such satellites have been observed by Barber ct al. in solid metal carbonyls bat are not expected in carbon monosidc nccordine to their model descriplion of the origin of the mtellites. WC find that Wellite peaks comparable to those found ;n meW cxbonyls do not appear in the carbon monoxide spectrum. A satellite is, however, observed at 13-19 eV below the principal osygen (1s) peak in carbon monoxide; it does not appear in the carbon (Is) spectrum. We suggest that this satellite is associated with a "shake up" process in which the
