Letters to the Editor 237 this behavior seems to depend on the metallic catalyst used. In the case of non-alloyed metals (Fe, Ni, Co) where no filament was observed under pure CO [5.9], hydrogen could act differently on the catalytic particle from what it soes in the FeCo50 alloy studied here, where it is not essential for the filamentary growth.
