Crane creates customer-specific Web-site
A new on-line procurement system for the sealing industry, initiated by John Crane EAA, has been developed.
The companies behind the system, which delivers an individual product selection and ordering process to each customer, claim that it has revolutionized the way in which one major oil and gas company sources its sealing products, and that it now looks set to do the same for many other organizations.
The basic principles of the system were conceived when an oil and gas company asked seal manufacturer John Crane EAA to link its product catalogue to Trade-Ranger, the global trading exchange for on-line procurement in the energy and petrochemical industries. This presented a major challenge because John Crane's product range is not only vast but is also made up of numerous variations.
John Crane says that it worked closely with Trade-Ranger and Microsoft Corp, on whose software the system is based, and supported by Rex, an independent technology consultant and systems integrator, it created a new system that effectively gives each
