✦ Synopsis

hydraulic sealing arrangements. It includes a patented hydrostatic pressure relief system, which is designed to provide rapid pressure actuation and pressure balancing. A machined valve groove opens and closes a relief channel so that the relief function can be independent of hardware deflection. These features operate in conjunction with the familiar back pumping technology of the Stepseal design and are expected to significantly extended life and provide a superior overall performance in arduous sealing applications.

The new seal is specified for operation to a speed of 15m/s with reciprocating movements and frequencies up to 5Hz. It can also be used up to 80MPa. The design and function of the seal also means no buffer volume is required between a pair of tandem seals, saving both cost and space.
