Product marking increases seal security

F reudenberg Simrit has introduced an anti-fraud marking process for elastomer seals. The process is aimed at providing traceability, material identification, warranty protection and to guard against counterfeit goods.

With the new, anti-fraud 'safe' process, all Simrit elastomer components, such as seals, diaphragms and elastomer compounds can also be marked. The name of the new marking process stands for Secure Adaptive Freudenberg Encryption. It provides clear product identification with information covering item description, model, dimensions, material, date of manufacture and serial number for reliable traceability and to guard against counterfeiting. The marking is individually matched to the product in two different forms. As well as a flat, rectangular code, distorted product marking for O-rings, for example, can also be provided. By marking products in this way, the code will be still legible even if up to 70% of the marking has been destroyed, for example, through wear. Conventional machineread codes, such as data matrix codes, are unable to provide the high capacity needed to identify seal components.

The 'safe' product marking is designed to offer reliable traceability and increase in promises of guarantees by enabling unwarranted guarantee claims to be given a simple rejection. Counterfeit products and imitation parts can be readily identified.
