โฆ Synopsis
This patent describes a gasket to be used between a pair of cylindrical surfaces, particularly large diameter piles such as those used in the construction of wind turbines. The piles may be four to five metres in diameter and when installing offshore it may be necessary to accommodate misalignment and eccentricity. The radial annulus between adjoining piles may be 70 mm with the gap to be sealed varying from 30 mm to 130 mm. The seal is intended to provide a more economic solution than inflatable seals. Methods for fitting the seal to the pile are discussed.

This patent describes the manufacture of a seal with graded properties that may be used as the bearing seal in a down-hole rock bit. A property gradient is formed in a seal, or a section of the seal, from the exterior surface inwards without changing the seal composition.
