β¦ Synopsis
This invention relates to the sealing of a ceramic matrix surface that contains a three-dimensional interconnected network of micro-cracks that are open at the surface. An additive material consisting of a flux or glass, is dispersed in the matrix. At a specified temperature it will soften and migrate by capillary action through the network of micro-cracks to the surface. A sufficient quantity of the additive material is dispersed in the matrix to create a gas-tight barrier.
