โœฆ Synopsis

This patent describes a tandem radial shaft seal that is specifically designed for automotive cooling systems. A partial vacuum may be applied to the system for leak testing and then filling. This can cause a conventional lip seal to vent air inwards. This seal has a support ring on the atmospheric side of the lip that is composed of an inelastic plastic either entirely or at least in its edge region. The purpose is to act as a close clearance to limit inward venting of air.
