β¦ Synopsis
The 1st installment of Shojai 's dark, female-driven domestic thriller series featuring pet-centric plots:
A young woman races a Texas blizzard to save her autistic nephew from a deadly secret others will kill to protect--and the service dog she's trained finds his true purpose, when he disobeys.
AN AUNT searches for her lost nephew--and dooms her sister.
A MOM gambles a miracle will cure--and not kill--her child.
A DOG finds his true purpose--when he disobeys.
Animal behaviorist September Day has lost everything--husband murdered, career in ruins, confidence shot--and returns home with her trained Maine Coon cat Macy to Texas to recover. She's forced out of hibernation when her nephew Steven and his autism service dog Shadow disappear in a freak blizzard.
When her sister trusts a maverick researcher's promise to help Steven, September has 24 hours to rescue them from a devastating medical experiment impacting millions of children, a deadly secret others will kill to protect. As September races the clock, the body count swells. Shadow does his good-dog duty but can't protect his boy. Finally September and Shadow forge a stormy partnership to rescue the missing and stop the nightmare cure. But can they also find the lost parts of themselves?
The story continues in HIDE AND SEEK...

From the Author
Hey there! Thanks so much for "adopting" my THRILLERS WITH BITE suspense series. I've always loved stories that make me gasp, laugh out loud, or weep as they take me on a roller-coaster ride. But I'd never found a book or story that dealt with a "dog viewpoint" or cat characters the way it should be done (well, the way that I thought so,anyway!). And as an animal behavior consultant and author of 30+ training, behavior and care books about cats and dogs, I decided finally to write the book that I'd always wanted to read.
The result was **LOST * AND FOUND *, and the story of a young autistic child lost in a blizzard with his service dog struck a chord with readers and reviewers, and prompted demands for "what happens next?" HIDE AND SEEK happens next, and takes place only a few weeks after the first story ends.September's tragic history hinted at in the first book comes to the forefront, and answering readers' requests, Macy-Cat has his own story line that figures much more prominently in the book. After all, I'm an equal opportunity pet lover!
Now the 3rd book in the series SHOW AND TELL brings the story full circle.
This past year my home in North Texas was inundated with horrific floods. Weirdly enough, I'd already included thunderstorms, tornadoes and floods in the plot, well before weather ran amok in real life. The tragedy of dogfights sadly is also areal life issue in my part of the world. And I'm also constantly inspired by the heroics of both pets and people who overcome incredible obstacles. So this time in SHOW AND TELL , September not only has help from Shadow and other pets, the victimized children from the first book *LOST * AND FOUND have their own "super-secret" plans for outwitting the villain.
I hope you enjoy all of these books as much as I do writing them. This most recent book also includes the names of winners of my hugely popular NAME THAT DOG and NAME THAT CAT contest, as I've done with the previous two stories. Be sure to read the FACT OR FICTION section at the end of SHOW AND TELL to learn more about these wonderful pets--and find out how to get the bonus chapter (what happens to Shadow when he goes missing?) that includes more winning pet names.
And yes, it is true you can train cats and understand dog behavior. For more on that, refer to one of my nonfiction books on the subject, like ComPETability: Solving Behavior Problems in Your Multi-Dog Household and ComPETability: Solving Behavior Problems in Your Multi-Cat Household.
