Dennon Lark is a Scriber, a scholar of the Kingsland’s forgotten past. But his own past has driven him into self imposed exile in the isolated village of Waymark, and he wants nothing more than to be left in peace.

Bryndine Errynson is the King’s niece, a born warrior who—along with her company of female soldiers—wants only to protect the Kingsland and its people. Unfortunately, the people aren’t interested in the protection of a woman, even one of royal blood.

When a group of rebels wielding mysterious powers launch a series of attacks across the Kingsland, Scriber Dennon is forced back into the world and into Bryndine’s path. Brought together by circumstance, these two outcasts must work together to solve the mystery of the rebels’ sorcery—a mystery rooted in the very research that sent Dennon into exile.

Racing against time and pursued by forces beyond their understanding, Dennon and Bryndine are the realm’s only hope. But in order to preserve the Kingsland’s future, they must first uncover its past.
