Abstract

Using a modified Hubbard formula for the dielectric function which has been previously shown to give results for the pair distribution function which are better than those given by the original Hubbard dielectric function, numerical calculations of the screening charge density around a fixed foreign charge in an electron liquid are presented for values of r~s~ corresponding to the metallic density range. The results are compared with those calculated by Langer and Vosko based on the original Hubbard approximation and appreciable differences are found at distances corresponding to the first three shells of ions around the impurity.
