โฆ Synopsis
There have been some reports about condensation reaction and stability of silicic acid system. Several authors studied the effect of pH value, salts added and concentration of silicic acid on condensation reaction of silicic acid. Others investigated the effect of particle diameter on stability of silicic acid system. But all those have not been concerned to complicated silicic acid system. L. Li and T. Lu found out that the relationship of gel time with pH value of complicated silicic acid system was identical with that of ordinary silicic acid system. Metal ions played dual roles on condensation. When the pH value was 0.5-1.0, the hindrance role dominated, while when the pH value was more than 1.0, the promotion role dominated. It was determined by different condensation of metal ions with silicic acid and poly silicic acid. The predominant factor of surfactant on gel time was the chemical structure of surfactants. Nonionic surfactant with steric effect was more suitable to control gel time than anionic surfactant with electrostatic effect.
