At October's European Conference on optical Communications (ECOC 2001) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Kamelian Itd (Yarnton, UK) demonstrated the industry's first variable-gain optical linear amplifier (OLA) which, it says, allows multi-wavelength amplification with no distortion.
