On comparing the observations with air exact ephenieris 1 found that the discordances in many cases were much greater than might be expected, especially because the planet was bright and the coniparison -stars were generally well determined and also uniformly reduced. 1 therefore ahanduned the iritention. which 1 had previously formed of computing the differential coefficients and forniiiig equations of condition to he solved by the method nf least squares, but derived a system of elements by a mode which appear in the s e p a l .
