Scanning electron and scanning tunneling microscopies have been used to study the morphology of Pt films electrodeposited on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG); deposition was from solutions containing K 2 PtCl 6 and Pb(C 2 H 3 O 2 ) 2 in order to produce films of Pt black. The resulting film

Abstract
Surface layer structures of [{Ru~2~(CO)~4~(PMe~3~)~2~}(ΞΌβO~2~CCO~2~)]~4~ and [{Ru~2~(CO)~4~(PMe~3~)~2~}(ΞΌβO~2~CCH~2~CO~2~)]~2~ with [Ru~2~(CO)~4~(PMe~3~)~2~] building blocks cisβligated by either O~2~CCO~2~ or O~2~CCH~2~CO~2~ on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) have been investigated by scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. STM images of wellβordered assemblies of these two molecules with molecular or submolecular resolution were obtained. These two molecules can adopt an orientation with their RuβRu bonds parallel or perpendicular to the substrate surface forming ordered 2Dβarrays with different layer structures and tunneling spectra.
