β¦ Synopsis
A scanning electron microscopy study was carried out on differentiated liver cells transformed in vitro by three chemical carcinogens into cells that give rise t o carcinomas. The results indicate that the transformed cells grow as a rule in tightly adherent monolayers but differ in topography. There is a tendency toward heterogeneity in cell shape compared to the normal and on the whole toward a larger number of surface microvilli in the malignant cell population. However, both in sparse and confluent cultures the topographic differences are often not striking enough t o unequivocally distinguish single neoplastic cells from the normal.

The arterial terminations were studied by scanning electron microscopy of microvascular casts in rat, hamster and human livers. Important species differences were observed. In the rat, frequent anastomoses between the terminal hepatic arterioles and portal venules were observed, whereas a few arteri
## Abstract We have previously shown that AEV infection of leukosisβfree chickens provokes an erythroleukemia in the infected birds, and that the target cell for virus transformation is most likely an early proβerythroblast comparable to the BFUβE. The virus infection correlates with a block in dif
