β¦ Synopsis
The physiological, biochemical, and pharmacokinetic characteristics of a species are not independently existing entities but rather result from relationships among other variables. Pharmacokinetic parameters may thus be regarded as constitutional variables, i.e. they bear close functional relationships to anatomic, biochemical, and physiologic characteristics. Several reports have dealt with the relatedness of pharmacokinetics to other biological processes," and the techniques used to characterize this order have been referred to as 'scaling' processes. The term scaling comes from the chemical engineering literature, where four general types have been described:'
