✦ Synopsis
The scale test conditions required to obtain agreement in performance between geometrically similar spray combustion chambers are examined, with special re[erence to fuel atomization criteria. Theoretica[ considerations do not yield a unique specification, but an optimum compromise can be derived, which in a practical case will enable suitable atomizers to be matched to chambers of different scales. Test conditions may then be chosen by which one scale combination o] chamber and atomizer can be used to predict the performance o] another. Two combustion chambers with a scale ratio of two have been tested under highly sensitive conditions, and an experimental correlation obtained it~ terms of spray momentum and droplet size, which agrees well with the theoretical analysis.
