✦ Synopsis

The saturable absorption dynamics of 4.tricyanovinyl-N,N-diethylaniline (TCVA) in methanol is investigated with intense picosecond light pulses at 527 nm. An excited-state absorption cross-section of a,, = (2.5 + 0.3) x 10-r' cm* and an absorption recovery time of 7*=3 k 1 ps are determined. The fast deactivation of the Sr state is due to internal conversion.
