This is an attractive book, making excellent use of the many graphs, figures and colour plates. It is an up-to-date as can be expected, given the very rapid rate of progress in the discipline. Thus, the most recent ice core included is the Vostok core, with no mention of the results from the new Greenland cores. However, it has shortcomings. My most serious reservation is that the book is misnamed, and is only suitable for a course in environmental chemistry.
