SARTORIUS MAKES FURTHER ACQUISITIONS
The Separation Technology Division of Sartorius AG has expanded its life sciences activities with the acquisition of two companies within the laboratory sector.
Retroactively effective 1 January 1999, Goettingenbased Sartorius has acquired 76 per cent of the shares in the UK company Vivascience of Lincoln, a specialist in products for biotechnology. While Sartorius offers Vivascience an established international sales and marketing network, Sartoflus can add process-scale versions of products for process applications in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries from Vivascience's portfolio to expand its own product range. Dr Utz Claassen, chairman of the Sartorius AG executive board and Group CEO, says Sartorius plans to develop the new group member as a centre of expertise for laboratory life sciences.
Sartorius has also bought the German firm Filtrak GmbH. Based in B~irenstein, Erzgebirge, near the Czech border, Filtrak manufactures special filter paper and substrates for separation technologies. Membrane filters, which are part of Sartorius' core expertise, are used in many applications in combination with depth filters. The material used in depth filters is similar to paper, but must meet specific purity and quality requirements. This deal is also effective 1 January 1999.
"Filtrak products supplement Sartorius' portfolio in its core application areas. Besides promoting the attractiveness of Sartorius' line of high-performance products and services, Filtrak products will contribute toward enhancing the utilisation of our marketing organisation's capacity," says Jean-Claude Wehrle, member of the executive board and president 13656937 16 of the Separation Technology Division at Sartorius AG.
