✦ Synopsis
The pods of Acacia oonalnna D.C. by aloohollc extraotion yields a oolourless saponln, whlah on hydrolyeis with rulphurlo acid yields an acid genin, m.p.26S-72°, dlaoetyl la&one m.p.235-350. This acid has been Identified ae aoaoio acid (I)' by mixed melting point with authentlo samples of acaola acid and It.6 aoetyl laotone reapeotively, (Cf.Aoaclo acid m.p.375-16°; aoaolo aold ace&y1 laotone ~.p.235-36~)~. Aoaclo acid la a sapogenin of fairly oommon ooourrenoe. Apart from the bark of Acaola intsla', It has also been reported In the bark of Alblzzla lebbek2 and In the seeds of Acacia intsla3, Aoaala oonolnna3, Alblzzla stlpulata' and Alblzzia odoratisriaa'.
