โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

Bandโ€stop fiberโ€optic filters based on sampled longโ€period gratings (Sโ€LPGs) have been fabricated and studied experimentally. Comparison between transmission spectra of the proposed Sโ€LPGs and normal LPGs have been carried out. It has been found that Sโ€LPGs possess much narrower stop bands than the corresponding normal LPGs, though their transmission spectra are similar. Experimental results also show that Sโ€LPGs have the same strain and temperature sensitivities as normal LPGs written in the same fiber. ยฉ 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract We present a novel method to fabricate fiber filters based on mechanically induced longโ€period fiber gratings. Transmission spectra can be tailored by external pressures or by introducing a phaseโ€shift. As an example, the filter was used to flatten the spectral output from an Erโ€doped s
