β¦ Synopsis
Sample preparation of amphetamine and methamphetamine by means of supported liquid membrane technique for high-performance liquid chromatography analysis
A technique for sample workup and enrichment using a supported liquid membrane (SLM) extraction and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was employed to determine addictive drugs in water samples and biological fluids. The narcotics studied were amphetamine and methamphetamine. Phenylethylamine was also investigated as an internal standard to test the possibility of its use for real samples. Alkaline phosphoric buffer with sample, as the donor solution, came in contact with the liquid membrane into which analytes were extracted. On the other side of the membrane the extracted compounds were trapped by dissociation in an acidic acceptor solution. The enriched and cleaned-up drugs were injected into an HPLC system with ultraviolet detection. Using n-undecane as membrane solvent, different acceptor and donor pH values were applied to obtain maximum extraction efficiency. Also, the concentration of analytes and the extraction time were varied to investigate the linearity of enrichment process. The limit of determination using supported liquid membrane enrichment of 100 mL of water or urine was about 2 ppb.
