โฆ Synopsis
An equation for the electrochemical potential of shaly sands is extended empirically to low-concentration solutions. This equation yields a relationship between an increase of bound water volume and a decrease of water conductivity. Using the data and an electrochemical equation for the electrical conductivity of shaly sand, a relationship for the salinity dependence on bound water conductivity, and bound water layer thickness, is derived. The procedure for the true shaly sand formation factor computation was tested by measuring the electrical conductivity and electrochemical potential of the shaly sand samples equilibrated in one solution. A practical recommendation for the use of high-concentration solutions is offered. A chart of resistivity index versus water saturation is offered. The results can be applied to improve laboratory measurement techniques, for a shaly sands electrochemical model, and in log analysis of shaly sands.
