Collecting data on vaccine rates is essential for the planning and evaluation of vaccination campaigns and thus a precondition for the systematic prevention and combat of vaccine preventable diseases. The vaccination status of Bavarian children is assessed during school entry examination and evaluated at the Bavarian Health and Food Safety Authority. The vaccination rates show the proportion of vaccinated children of all children who submitted their immunization records. These rates must be corrected for children who could not submit their immunization record. A sensitivity analysis was done for the measle vaccination rate (at least 1 inoculation dose) for the assumption that 0% (A0), 30% (A1), 60% (A2) or 100% (A3) of the children who could not submit their immunization record had received at least 1 measle vaccination. 92,1% of the children of preschool age submitted their immunization record. For these children the reported coverage for 1 dose was 89,4% and 23,2% for ≥ 2 doses. The proportion of vaccinated children of all examined children is under the extreme assumption of A0 82,3%. Under the specified different more realistic assumptions the actual vaccination rates would be 84,7% (A1), 87% (A2) or 90,2% (A3). The range of these vaccination rates (A0-A3) varies among the administrative districts between 1,6 and 16,9 percentage points as a function of the proportion of examined children with missing immunization records. The vaccination rates of children without immunization records is subject of further research. A realistic correction of the determined vaccination rates is important for the WHO goal to eradicate measles in Europe.
