✦ Synopsis
A DEWCE is described which is designed for the measurement and maintenance of the level of liquid nitrogen or hydrogen in metal containers. The level is measured by using a capacity method. The accuracy of measuring and maintaining the level is + 5 mm.
HELIUM AND HYDROGEN CRYOSTATS WITHOUT ADDITIONAL LIQUID NITROGEN COOLING A. B. FRADKOV
A NEW type of metal cryostat has been developed for work with liquid helium and liquid hydrogen, which does not require additional liquid nitrogen cooling. Liquid nitrogen is replaced by using the cold of the evaporating gas. Tests have shown that the evaporation frorfi the cryostats described is 6-8 g/hr of liquid helium, which is lower than in arrangements with nitrogen cooling. The cryostats are simple to construct and are convenient to use.
STUDIES ON DESORPTION CRYOSTATS
L. BEWILOGUA J. REICHEL By means of adsorption under high pressure (100 atm) and desorption or expansion, respectively, only to 1 atm, the final temperature may be reached in a few minutes. The refrigeration and the transfer of heat of adsorption is effected by rheans of precooled gas, which flows through spirals embedded in the adsorbing medium. The change from isothermic to adiabatic conditions is obtained immediately by switching off the gas stream. Starting from 62.5°K and 100 atm, at I atm 44°K was obtained with hydrogen and 40.5°K with neon.
