Ruthenium trichloride was found to be an efficient catalyst for the first time for the synthesis of a variety of 3,4‐dihydropyrimidin‐2(1__H__)‐ones by cyclocondensation of an aldehyde, β‐dicarbonyl compound and urea in excellent yields under mild reaction conditions.
