✦ Synopsis

emptiness ' above it. In the two cases seen within a few days of the accident it was possible to palpate the tendon of the long head lying coiled up in this space and it felt like a worm lying just beneath the skin. If the case is not seen until some months after the injury, this ' coiled worm ' sensation is not noted, for the effusion organizes into fibrous tissue which binds the coils of the tendon together and they thus lose their identity. In some cases the coiled tendon is not felt for the reason that the ruptured portion remains in the bicipital groove.
