Trauma (automobile accident) produced rupture of the anterior spinal ligament in the thoracic area with concomitant anterior separation of the adjacent vertebrae in each of two men who had rheumatoid spondylitis. This injury is unusual. The pain due to it complicated medical management of other disorders and injuries. HEUMATOID SPONDYLITIS is responsible for calcification of the R anterior spinal ligament. Rupture of this calcified ligament in the thoracic area has not previously been reported.
