For neutron inelastic scattering at ISIS the rotating analyser crystal (x) spectrometer (ROTAX) will be designed for O-500meV energy and 0-2OA-' momentum transfer. This inverted geometry time-of-flight machine will provide a flexibility and versatilitv being intermediate between conventional multianalyser crystal spectrometers (MAX) and triple axis spectrometers (TAS). -
