β¦ Synopsis
We diagnosed 16 rotator cuff tears in 109 shoulders in 104 patients with a traumatic anterior dislocation. Twelve of these were followed up for an average of 32 months. A surgical repair of the cuff was carried out in eleven and the results were satisfactory in eight (73%) regardless of a Bankart lesion. The repair of a torn cuff seems to be sufficient to stabilise the shoulder in elderly patients, even when a Bankart lesion is present and is not repaired.

## Abstract The rotator cuff musculature imparts dynamic stability to the glenohumeral joint. In particular, the balance between the subscapularis anteriorly and the infraspinatus posteriorly, often referred to as the rotator cuff βforce couple,β is critical for concavity compression and concentric
Three elderly patients developed persistent hemarthrosis of the shoulder joint without having suffered injury. Complete tears of the rotator cuff, attrition of the undersurface of the acromion, and instability were noted in the affected shoulders. Synovial fluids examined from two patients contained
