The millimeter/submillimeter transitions of the n 5 -2n 9 interacting bands of HNO 3 have been measured in the symmetric top limit. Torsional splittings in both vibrational bands have been observed. The 2n 9 splitting is due to the torsional motion of H around the NO whereas the n 5 splitting is due
