✦ Synopsis
The violet emission spectrum (B* Z-X' C) of the CN radical observed by the collision of HCN with metastable AI(~P, ?) atoms was analyzed. The effective rotational temperature of the CN(B2C) radical, 3s estimated from a band e&elope analysis, is about 2000°K. The disrributions of the excess energy to vibration, rotation and trmslatiou are found to be 1.2 5 0.2, 0.2 and 1.9 2 0.3 eV, respectively.
