An experimental method based on the detection of the enhancement of chemi-ionization following the pulsed laser excitation of CH\*(A \*A, B 'Z-) radicals is described. This approach provides conclusive and direct obserwtions of chemiionization reactions involving Cil\*(A 2~, B',r-) radicals. The re

✦ Synopsis
Electronic relaxation rate constants for specific rotational levels of CH (A 'A and B *Z-) have been measured. In contrast to similar measurements made earlier for other hydrides, the results obtained in the present work show an increase in the quenching efficiency upon rotational excitation. The electronically excited CH states are produced by multiphoton excitation and fraSmentation of acetone upon photolysis at 193 nm by means of an ArF excimer laser light. The CH fragments are produced rotationally hot and the time evolution of rotational levels with N'g21 for CH( A 'A, u'=O) and N'g 15 for CH(B 'E-, u'=O) can be measured.
