β¦ Synopsis
A new chromium thiophosphate Cr 4 (P 2 S 6 ) 3 was synthesized by solid state reaction between Na 4 P 2 S 6 ' 6H 2 O and CrCl 3 ' 6H 2 O at room temperature rather than by the ceramic method. The product was characterized by means of XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and magnetic measurements. XRD shows that Cr 4 (P 2 S 6 ) 3 , isostructural with Ga 4 (P 2 S 6 ) 3 , crystallizes in the monoclinic system with a β«Ψβ¬ 0.8692(5) nm, b β«Ψβ¬ 0.7562(6) nm, c β«Ψβ¬ 0.8344(6) nm, and β«Ψβ¬ 91.97(7)3 3. The Raman spectrum bears the characteristic peaks for the P 2 S 4Ψ 6 anion group. Magnetic susceptibility data reveal the existence of a d 3 Cr 3Ψ cation. These results correspond to the charge balance Cr 3Ψ 4 (P 4Ψ 2 S 2Ψ 6 ) 3 .
